Some Bad News ...

Well, today was the day I was waiting for ... and it brought bad news. I received an email and they informed me that they offered the position to someone else. I cannot tell you how disappointed I am. At first I was not sure about the position but then became more excited after meeting them and hearing more about it. Unfortunately they found someone better than I. So yea, this one is not happening. I cannot tell you how much this brought me down. I did so well and they all seemed to like me. Sometimes I just want to ask them "why not me"? I would love to hear specifics from them. But that will never happen. So I still have the first place where the guy chose someone else but said he can bring someone in to start 12/15. But I don't, and won't, have any confirmation of that until 12/1. It's a sad day ...

But just because I had a day of bad news does not mean you can't enjoy some pics. Here ya go!

I would love to see a few pics of the sack of the one who got the job over you.

Sorry to hear and hope that the other for 12/1 comes through! At least you have something else in the wings that might pan out. Believe me i understand about wanting to know why you dont get a job, it would help people so much if they would just be constructive and give the honest truth so we could learn from it.

Jason- I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason. That said, I KNOW how hard you tried to put your best foot forward. At the end of the day, though YOU thought this job was for you, those angels up above didn't. And guess what? That's OK, because they already have the right job lined-up for you... they are just continuing to lead you closer towards it :)). So yeah, get upset, feel bad, mope about for another 2-3 days, then, just right back onto the wagon and keep on pushing. And don't forget, USE YOUR NETWORK OF FRIENDS! 80% of jobs are found via connections. Apply online and whatnot, but check out your LinkdIn friends and others to see who knows who that works at Company X. A great way to get your foot in the door.

Lastly, call those guys up and thank them for the opportunity they gave you to interview. Let them know you were stoked about the position, but also understand that they found a more qualified candidate. From there, say, "the reason why I called is because I am really interested in developing my career with a company like yours. If I may, can I get some advice as to things I could do to explore similar opportunities? Also, I would like to get some constructive feedback on how I interviewed -- such that I can improve on my interviewing skills in the future."

Few candidates know that they CAN do that. My friends and I have found it exceedingly useful... and it's a great way for the HR person to actively continue exploring internal opportunities for you... and give you responses to the areas for development that you want to hear about. Rehearse first -- and then pick-up that phone and call. Have pen and pare with you and take notes. GO get 'em tiger!

And babes... like we said- take 2-3 days out to mope, mope, mope! But then, get up and keep on charging. USE YOUR EVERY NETWORK of friends, former colleagues, former bosses. Dig deep.

Hey Stud,

Chin up. You did not lose a job. Somebody else got one and that is a good reason to say a "cheers" and move on to the next opportunity. I agree totally with the other guy that you absolutely must thank this company for any opportunity they provided to hone a skill, shake a hand or carve a path toward another hand to shake along the path to that career. It is all about making an impression. Making the wrong one is not to your advantage so stoke up all the testosterone you can toward keeping positive. Smile through the disappointment and know you are not alone. With CA unemployment hovering around a published 12.5% and probably much closer to 17% than we'd like to admit there are many more young gay and straight men sitting at home wanking off between resume and phone calls. You must carve your path forward. There is no one to do if for you.

After that, check the traffic on your blog and do whatever you can to move that forward and then go after advertisers. Don't ever forget you created a blog that men look at regularly. It can make a few bucks for you too. There is more than one tool in your pocket. Use them all in times like these.

Good luck.
